I think the writers do a great job of throwing in twists. I usally anticipate them, but I never saw the reporter as Trinity's daughter, or the ending coming. And despite the fact that I know Dexter can't and won't get caught for his murderous ways, I still get nervous when he gets (uncharacteristically) careless or when someone gets too close to catching him. I think that speaks volumes for the writers.
Did you watch the interview after the finale? I'm looking forward to the darker Dexter next season. And I'm wondering what the hell they're going to do with those kids.

the season was very fun. I have almost always like Lithgow in whatever he does, and he was a great evil guy. and sure it's time for rita to be gone. the kids are no issue- he'll hire help and the kids' schedules he can work around.
the only bitch I ever had is one you and sidd point to in different ways- Season 1 and 2 it was a dark drama. He lived by his rules and he was super careful. Last season it started to move to being a cartoon, and this season it became full blown. It's a good cartoon, and really fun to watch, but his rules are out the door- I mean Season 1 Dexter would probably kill Season 4 Dexter-
he used to kill those that were getting away with murder. this season he killed his second innocent- and that I actually think was no big deal- But killing the guy where he fucked up the testimony was way outside any level of caution. then, trinity wanted to kill himself AND DEXTER SAVED HIM? worse, the cops would have caught Trinity- the code would say he isn't a proper victim then. Instead Dexter kills a trucker that maybe killed someone a decade ago to send the cops in the wrong direction?
and actually that isn't even the stuff that makes it cartoon-like: he shows up in trinity's life- he almost kills trinitiy in his kitchen in front of the guy's family- what does he think'll happen once trinitiy goes missing? any suspects the family might sketch out for the police?
and now the crying mug of Dexter morgan will be on TV as the anguished victim- Think Trinity's family might recognize him?
that's my bitch. still, i'll watch next season. but the first few seasons set me up to say, "cmon Dexter wouldn't do that." cuz I remember that old Dexter.

One of the writers on Dexter is the ex of a good friend of mine here. According to her (I've never met him) she supported him for years when he was a struggling writer and as soon as that show had any success, he left her for a younger woman. It doesn't seem really like my sort of show anyway, but now I have reason not to watch it out of friend solidarity.

Well, if you're sad about not being Most Helpful anymore, you can take comfort in the fact that you're a finalist for Klassiest!

I generally agree with this. The relationship to Trinity's family is another writing flaw. (Also the fact that Dexter was at their house when the police showed up, and they were standing right there when he was all friendly with the police.)
I don't mind Dexter's mistakes, including his saving of Trinity -- it shows him coming apart at the seams a little, and that makes sense to me. He's moved on from "the code," and that's why his father's ghost/memory keeps plaguing him.

I have always, I think, called iit the Generic Winter Gift-Giving Holiday. Others, IIRC, liked to add "With Food" to the end. So, GWGGH or GWGGHWF.

I have noticed some very aggressive "Merry Christmas"ing here -- nearly angry and defensive.
Is this common elsewhere?

Sounds like they may be practicing for the airing of the grievences. And mixing up their holidays.
I haven't noticed it here.

Apparently there is a War on Christmas and you are on the front lines.
I would not expect to see anything like that here, nor have I.

Do the angry and defensive greetings correlate highly with CHRIST-mas tree ownership?
I have not noticed it around here so much, but then again I work in a place where the MOT population is higher than the national average, so YMMV.

I work in government. All the people with college degrees use Happy Holidays as the generic and only use Merry Christmas when they know the person to whom they are speaking is Christian. And they say Happy Hannukah or Happy Diwali as appropriate. Some of the more graceless non-attorney staff do as you describe, and they also seem to have a stranglehold on whether and to what extent there are decorations in the lobby, which skews a little Christmassy, IYKWIM. I suspect this is the new normal.
