it means there are no contract manufacturers here. And Obama did make a loan guarantee for one, which is in the process of getting set up, which will make the second car.

Are you done pretending to be daft?

on the Facebook the equivalents, or analogs, of gatti or someone similarly dim are claiming credit for obama about khadaffi dying.

do you guys not get that Egypt seems headed in a shit direction and you might not want to brag too soon about any ME country (besides Iraq and Afghanistan) where we had a hand? To claim credit for Obama for Libya is like W claiming credit the olson twins grew boobs.

Word to the wise: you probably want to take Iraq off your list.

Is this what's it's come to, Hank? You are so bored that you have to invent arguments that someone might have said, somewhere else, and bring that straw shit to argue against here?

Sad.

Wasn't me, Hank, FWIW, and I doubt that one of your friends on Facebook did so because, naturally, you don't have dim friends. Still, assuming that someone somewhere actually said whatever pissed you off, I'd suggest that you go there and give your argument a go.

As in how many are there? No. I guess I assumed it wasn't all that many people at a given time though (in part because Zuccotti Park isn't that big).

Best campaign commercial evah.

Quote:

It consists mostly of Cain's unknown, mustachioed chief of staff, Mark Block, staring straight into the camera and saying patriotic, optimistic things about the Cain candidacy. The real weirdness, though, takes place in the ad's final fifteen seconds. First, Block takes a long, slow drag of a cigarette as a painfully cheesy tea party anthem begins to play. Then we see a close-up of Cain turning to the camera and very slowly breaking into a smile. In the words of one YouTube commenter who we're not going to try to top, "I imagine Herman Cain is closing the curtains behind him at that shady motel, turning slowly, and making that creepy smile at a scared prostitute on the bed."

I got the mistaken impression this morning that the Oakland Police had set out last night to add to the Occupy movement with their tactics last night, but I don't see it getting much press, so maybe they're right.

That said, I really don't get why it's not getting more press that the police used batons, tear gas and bean bag rounds to clear a public space of peaceful protesters.

Maybe Atticus can explain what city officials think they are accomplishing with this sort of thing. It seems to me that they are only taking a very big risk of escalating what was a contained situation into something out of control. At minimum, there will likely be more peaceful protesters after this action, and, at worst, there is wholesale rioting. Is having a cleared park really worth that? And why isn't it better to let the thing die off on it's own?

Last week the local Occupiers were reportedly planning to protest in the lobby of our building. We got advanced warning (and it turned out to be basically a non-event), but also word that local law enforcement will eventually seek to clear the plaza of occupiers. Hopefully they aren't that stupid.

I thought they were going to wait until the weather turns cold and people either decide camping out overnight without tents isn't worth frostbite or natural selection takes its course.

Of course then they'll decide to take over your building!

It does seem like a "problem" that will solve itself.

I honestly do not know why the cops and building security were so keen to keep them out last week. There is a large indoor open space in which it would have caused very little inconvenience for the 50 or so people to protest for awhile. They have been far from unruly, and it probably would not have been difficult to work out an agreement with them that allows them to make their point without too much disruption.

Instead, they forced them into the street and blocked midday traffic (which is pretty light there anyway).

They could have made them sit under the hanging granite sculpture and freaked them out that it would fall on them.

I don't think any amount of Scotch could cause either one of us to suggest islands float. But I do like this guy's creativity. Should he be somehow proven right, I think he might have the best economic platform of all - towing China, and all other emerging markets, to our shores, tethering them to us, declaring them under our control, and then blending their economic numbers with ours.

Do you really think the guy was speaking literally -- "tip over and sink"? It seems unlikely, unless his proposal was to distribute the population around the island equally to make sure it was balanced.

I think when the serious cold comes, you'll see OWS refocus into indoor flash mob strikes. That will be interesting.

But the biggest problem I see with OWS, long term, is a lack of sense of humor. They're too self-righteous. Last week a bunch of them were clever enough to sneak into a Sotheby's auction of Edmund Safra's (dead billionaire) furniture by dressing in expensive suits. When the auction started, they could have made a mess of the thing by offering outlandish bids. It would have been funny as hell to see people making offers in a pompous artistrocratic tone, then saying something silly like, "Oh, wait! I don't have that kind of money!" and running out.

Instead, the humorless bastards got inside, stood up, started chanting slogans in unison, and were quickly rounded up and thrown out.

Humor denigrates. It wounds. It insults like nothing else, and necessarily makes the subject small. It also attracts support, and makes its users likable to audiences who'd otherwise ignore them. OWS should watch some good stand-up. 500 George Carlins, Louis CKs, and Andy Kaufmans would have already gotten a millionaire's tax to the floor of Congress.

Yeah, these turkeys wouldn't even laugh if you said there was so much money in Manhatten banks that soon the whole island would tip over and sink.

When is a cop a cop?

The local cop union is in high dudgeon because a local "cop killer" is getting parole after 29 years in jail. When I think of "cop killer" I think of someone who killed an on-duty copy but the victim in this case was off duty and moonlighting as a security guard in a drugstore.

So if you're just an average joe working as a security guard, it's OK for your killer to get parole but not if you were a moonlighting cop?
