I think market forces may push people back into medicine. People will run to professions that seem safe in times of poor economic opportunity. Additionally, supply and demand forces will make it easier, and possibly cheaper, to become a doctor.

The problem is:

1. No one will become a GP;
2. Specialists have more power to opt out of Medicare.

Concierge medicine is going to be a lot bigger than anybody thinks.

Are you sure? One of the Bushies was complaining about how they should have captured him alive, and someone on Fox complained that killing bin Laden is destabilizing and could bring retribution. I mean, if it happens on Obama's watch, it can't be good, right?

I tend to think of this as more a sign of the broader progress we're making rather than a success in and of itself. Ultimately, it matters most if it further destabilizes al Qaeda and, perhaps more importantly, the Taliban and the local forces of radical Islam in Pakistan.

I would also assume that al Qaeda laid plans for a retributive strike to reassert its position. I assume much of the reason we didn't strike until now was ferreting out and trying to influence, as much as we can, what happens next.

According to the Washington Post, at sea so there wouldn't be a grave site to become a symbol. They also said Islamic law typically requires burial within 24 hours.

I have a feeling we will see photos eventually.

But it could be that it's all just a hoax like everything else with this administration.

Someone was tracking the frequency with which this joke was being made on Twitter last night.

Neat moment during the Phillies-Mets game last night as the crowd was learning the news from iPhones and such and getting excited (USA! USA!) and the players in the dugouts couldn't figure out what was going on.

Perhaps. It's very hard to know what actually happens in Pakistan. I rather doubt that they were in the dark as much as they now claim, but we may never know.

The media keep repeating that he lived in a "luxury compound" and I've heard several times that it was a million $$ place. From the pix I've seen, if that's a $1mm house in Pakistan, then Abbotabad houses would fit nicely in EsEff, price-wise.

The Telegraph implies that torture may have worked because the two key sources for identifying the courier who led to bin Laden were waterboarded.

Of course it also says the man's name was first learned four years ago, which I think is well after the Bush administration reportedly stopped using waterboarding. ETA: That reported date (of the last CIA waterboarding) can't be right if al-Libi was only captured in 2005 and was also waterboarded (or it wasn't the CIA).
