Now that he's been revealed as a liar, and Palin is revealed as stupid, who do you think will get more votes?

Okay, but did you ever see Edwards as a viable candidate? #rhetorical

Even I'm missing your point. did you know he was a philanderer? Had a child out of wedlock? had committed election fraud? Yeah, she was a slick plaintiff's lawyer and I wouldn't have touched him with Coltrane's 10 foot dick, but he appeared to be a much more intelligent* person than anyone currently in for the R's.

I think Romney is smart, but the Mo thing kills me.

it's what always happens- I simply made the joke he was wrong about facts, then Sidd picks up some weird spin and I stick around for that ride doing my best to respond. in this run, I was simply making the point that Edwards appears to be one dedicated liar, like to Nixon levels.

anyone else hear his announcement as buried racism?

"when we elected Obama, we knew he was inexperienced, but we did what makes America great, we trust this "inexperienced" man..."

to me the "what makes America great" bit implies something other than "inexperienced" as to what it was about BO we gave the chance to.

He looked okay in the primiaries against Kerry, but I voted against him.

Now, when I say "he looked okay," I did not know he was a liar and a cheat. In contrast, people knew Palin was a moron when they flocked to vote for her, and they know it today. Is she viable in your party? 'Cause I don't think Edwards is in my party, now that we know what we know.

Marion Barry was "viable" in your party, so you know, you might just want to keep it zipped.

and polls everywhere says Palin cannot be elected, so I'm not sure what you mean by viable.

The fact that he was a used car sales man (read, borderline liar/cheat) was just as evident as Palin's stupidity.

exactly. the dumb R's can't see through Palin, but the smart ones do, even the dull normal do.

the dumb Dems didn't see through Edward, ok. But the smart ones didn't either (although since he was running against Gore then Kerry maybe he seemed not so vapid and evil in comparison?)

Oh, please -- you really want to compare local candidates to national ones?

Okay. I'll see the D's Marion Barry and raise you the R's David Duke. Or maybe you can stop making stupid analogies, for once?

Can't be elected, or can't win the primaries? Only one of those relates to whether the party sees her as viable.

A quick google search shows that Palin's "favorable" rating amont Rs was 76% a year ago, and around 60% now.

So are you saying that the marjority of Rs are below "dull normal"?

My personal opinion? Those of us that don't label ourselves as either dem or r on average have an IQ about 23 points higher than those who are pure dem or r. No offense. Of course that is average. Like I'm sure you're 13 points or so above penske even though he is politically free thinking.

If people want to compare the slimey sell-your-mother-for-the-right-price, excessively vain policians of each party, I think the right comparison is Edwards to Romney. Both smart, both rich, both different species of slime mold.

Yeah, well, Barry, who's very particular animal who appeals to a very particular category of voter is a peculiar way to say anything about the numerousness of any category of Dem voter other than the Barry voter.

I'm sure this is true, though of late I think the Rs have been making a very serious play for the overwhelming bulk of the stupid voters. It's a targetted constituency at this point - and that's as clear as the sound of Paul Revere's bells!

1. He's Mo (i.e. a "cultist" to many/most of the bible-thumper R set).
2. He was for "Obamacare", at the state level, before he was against it.
3. He ran a company that (in a wicker oversimplification) bought companies, fired American workers and sent the profits to "Wall Street".

I don't see how he makes it thru the R primaries, as each of those are problematic for different, if overlapping, R constituencies.

Also, keep in mind that the Rs changed their primary rules (see, e.g., here) so that it will be harder for a bare plurality candidate like McCain to drive others out.

As to the slime mold question, he comes across as completely plastic and potentially completely for sale.

To some degree I think that's probably unfair, as are the items that Cletus mentioned, but it's his burden to bear. He'd probably be a reasonably capable centrist president, which of course is not what his party wants.

So maybe that's not unfair at all.

I think it's all pretty obvious. His word is as good as Edwards' was - changes his poisitions daily, has been on every side of every issue, seems to have no loyalty to anyone or any given principals (here I'd say he topped Edwards), and is intensely (really intensely) vain. It may be that he hasn't slept around because it would muss his hair too much, and that the generous supply of twenty- and thirty- something blondes who trail him is simply window dressing, but he's got more of them and they are more uniform than Edwards' coterie, which at least included a few brunettes and redheads.

Anyone else here met him much? I assume I'm not the only one who felt like they needed to wash afterwards.

It's interesting watching him on Healthcare. He seems to know he has to battle the flip-flopper image he's so carefully developed over the years, but it's profoundly uncomfortable for him to actually still support something that is not popular.

As long as T-Paw remains in the race, I don't see Romney pulling any support from the Religious Right. Even if T-Paw drops out while Romney is still in it, he'd have to be ferociously pro-life to overcome the MO thing. And he'd have to get the LDS to start running more of those commercials.

Wait. You're worried about fairness among Republican politicos?

I'm looking forward to seeing how many of them mention at every opporutnity how his Mormonism shouldn't play a role, usually a couple sentences distant from where they also say that it's important to have a good Christian candidate.

Confirmation Bias

The Senate's outrageous silent Borking of Peter Diamond and Goodwin Liu really should be getting more press.

Diamond example is particularly egregious as the objections are so blatantly disingenuous.

At least they voted on Bork.

"borking" generally refers to the intense, purportedly misleading public ridicule that occurred during a confirmation process.

This ain't borking, whatever it is. Which is, simply, a minority's decision that they prefer obstructionism to governing.

2 and 3 are not issues for me. I don't think it's a flip flop to be for something at the state level, but not at the federal level, at least in theory. And his business experience is actually his only attribute that makes him attractive to me.

Yeah, from your perspective, he's the only one officially in (or close to it), but how does he play among the motivated R primary electorate? The ones who think that "obamacare" is socialism + fascism, but want the gov't to stay out of medicare? And the neo-populists?

How is him being Mo an issue for you?

Only one of them is likely to accept a VP slot, thus they are not fully redundant.
