It really will be a fascinating thing to watch. Early on in these debates, it seems pretty clear that Perry is untethered from the constraints of reason, and it'll be interesting to watch whether Romney is able to box him in to things like "facts" and "reality," because there ain't no way that Romney can out-id this guy. Who will GOP primary voters actually choose?

Hmm. "Fascinating" must be one of those words like "upshot," because for years I thought it meant "really interesting" and all along it meant "pants-shittingly-terrifying." Makes me think of all those Star Trek episodes in a much different light.

I think he's gone a bit too far on SS for all but the hardest core of primary voters, and it sounds much too much like he wants to destroy it completely and leave nothing in its place (I freely admit that I have no idea, or interest in, what his actual policy prescription for SS might be). Even Republicans have parents and grandparents who collect SS, and there are even some who harbor some hope that it will be there for them in their old age. No one gives a shit about global warming in any faction of the GOP primary voting base as far as I can tell, so he's probably safe being a wingnut on that point.

He quit smoking, for one. But yeah, I'm really really really disappointed by his lack of action on this and I'm sure that a Republican administration will have it licked in the first 100 days. In fact, it can probably just be prayed away. If you're not a Muslim, that is.

Yes. If you think of Obama needing a wonderful GOP foil in the general election, then it's in the "really interesting sense."

If you consider that occasionally the wonderful foil could actually win, then we're in to "oh, shit" territory. I try not to focus too much on that possibility, though I agree that it's a real one.

Right. This is shaping up to be a Tea Party vs. Grandparents battle. Who knows which side is stronger?

sorry, no. You guys believe the World will die, fucking die, it's all over, like Health care isn't important because you cannot survive here- ain't no medicine for that. and that it will all happen if we don't do something Now.

R's wouldn't act on it because we know it's at least 90% horseshit, and it doesn't matter what we do if China and India do nothing. So your little game is silly.

If the man truly believes we are at a tipping point and has done so little he deserves, hell, not just impeachment, or simple imprisonment for treason- the man is ignoring things he needs to do to save the World. he should be tried at the World Court. Why do you hate the World?

Translation: I got no answer. I agree if Obama really believes we are at a tipping point his administration has behaved horribly. I guess he was lying to all of us to get our votes. But that's weird because I am a sheep whose vote is captured already until I die, so why bother lying to me?

In order to translate you have to be fairly fluent in both languages, and I think that's where your problem is.

I'm in the class of people Obama admits he wants to fuck, as opposed to you, in the class he has fooled he won't harm. If, for purpose of argument, I'm not fluent in English I just that much more impressive.

IIRC, health care that'll kick in 'round about 2014, after lots of Democrats have had a chance to lose elections in the interim. But they got better CBO scores, for all the good it did in persuading people like you.

Getting people hc with the trade off being we'll all die shows a lack of leadership. It would be like if w had followed bubba's lead and had his only reaction to al queda attacks being spending 8 years drafting a plan for the next president to follow. W didn't do that he solved the problem by invading Iraqistan.

Steven Jobs is giving a speech now?

Quote:

[Ray meets this Canadian in Mexico]
I remarked that there seemed to be quite a few Canadians in Mexico.
He bristled. "Why shouldn't there be?"
"Out of proportion to your numbers, I mean. It was just a neutral observation."
"We're quite free to travel, you know. We can even go to Cuba if we wish."
"I'm not making myself clear."
"Do please make yourself clear."
"Well, there are two hundred million Americans and twenty million
Canadians, and my country is closer to Mexico than yours, but I get
the impression that there are just about as many Canadians here as
Americans. At this table, for instance."
"You're not the only Americans. You people just stole that name."
"Look here, why don't you kiss my ass?"

I didn't hear the speech but given the current climate in Congress what hope did he voice for another big chunk of spending? Not saying this from any bias standpoint, just wondering if he just said "we should spend more" or if he somehow made it seem like it wasn't another big price tag.

IMHO, the speech was less about getting what he wants through Congress, which is unlikely to impossible, and more about running for reelection.

I don't understand the question you are trying to ask. Are you asking whether he really thinks he can get a bill with lots of spending through Congress? That's what I thought you meant, but the way that you deploy the English language often leaves your meaning well cloaked.

I agree that he needs to do this to get re-elected. I think he was taking a different approach until now because he was trying to get things passed. The two call for different strategies.

you may be right about my ability to communicate. But it has buffaloed several judges and clients enough that i control the universe. so my version of English is what you need to learn to understand.

No axe here. Your questions were:

I haven't watched the speech yet, but I think the answers are;

1. Objection, vague and ambiguous as to "big chunk." 2. Notwithstanding that objection, none. I doubt he expressed any "hope" as to anything whatsoever, "given given the current climate in Congress." Are all your Interrogatories so easy? As for the remainder of your inquiries, I am similarly sure that the resonse is "No."

I didn't watch the whole thing, but what I saw was an excellent speech. Excellent speeches, however, have proven less than effective over the last few years.

It will be interesting to see how the Rs contort themselves to oppose tax cuts for working people. My guess is that the payroll tax cut for workers will be held hostage to some kind of 90% reduction in the corporate tax rate and the abolishment of the estate and capital gains tax.

I think they will readily back the payroll tax cuts, as long as there are concurrent cuts in spending.

Like for every $35k in payroll tax cuts, we lay off a teacher? That does sound pretty plausible as an R position.

It is funny, but I think it's more a function of this being the only sheet music on the stand at the moment. "Oh, yeah, fuckers? Pass this!" is more fun, and useful in painting the other side as obstructionist, than is engaging in dry arguments over the flaws of supply side economics.
