I'll work with you Hank. Let's get together and do something. As long as you agree to every fucking little thing I want everything should be fine.

But what will cost Obama a second term, if he fails to win re-election, won't be Democratic "arrogance" or a health care "debacle." It will be the continuing shiteness of the economy, a fundamental, structural and enduring shiteness that was not of his manufacture, no matter what your objections are to his methods for dealing with it (from left or right, I have mine, I'm sure you have yours).
What the Republicans have learned from this election is that preventing Democrats from taking even those baby steps they might actually be able to take without tripping over their own chubby feet to mitigate the overall shiteness wins votes. GOP priorities are not to make things better between now and 2012, but to ensure continued shiteness and make it stick to Obama. They now have everything they need to make sure it happens. Lucky us!

Any day now you'll see Hank call the Republicans on their arrogance.

I did. Post 2002 election. As an aside, would you rewrite your post to somehow start with "38?"

I have completely repudiated my former party. I honestly think Reagan would roll in his grave if he could see some of this shite.

I remember the last run before i left your gym. both you and the captain of the other team were trying to get me on your squads: for the rebounds. the above was basically your sales pitch IIRC.

I cannot get over the fact that the Dems could not move 1 of 40 R votes. That doesn't make one side childish- it makes them both unwilling to work. the Dems should have been able to get something through that was closer to a consensus. ife the 40 Rs wouldn't vote for it no matter, that means the Rs have some kind of discipline that approaches voodoo mind control. I cannot believe that true of US Senators. they are political animals that are pragmatists.
and just to address Ironnoshow's anticipated point- health care reform was not the same as the civil rights act or voting rights act. those were objectively right. HC reform is intended to make major changes to how people that were covered are to be covered. it was not right in and of itself as a concept.

I believe just the opposite. Republicans got whipped and adopted a do-absolutely-nothing and filibuster everything approach.

Ran into Ted Turner in the elevator there once. I said something stupid and he said something clever in return.
Great story! Tell us more, grandpa!

Why does it take both?

Have you missed the last 16 years? That is exactly what they have.

Right, and they have learned that they get elected by saying "no" to anything the dems want, paying lip service to "small government" and cutting rich people's taxes.

I know. They hate people who read books. Except if it's the dust jacket of -Atlas Shrugged, in which case autodidacticism becomes a virtue.
But dude, seriously, if I could have found a class that let me read Lovecraft for credits, do you think I would have signed up for all of that Pope and Swift? Fuck that.
