As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

To the extent that Sebby is pointing out that many lawyers are tools who lack perspective and go too far in the representation of clients, I agree. Defense lawyers, too, in my experience. (I myself would never, ever do such a thing, or at least flatter myself in that regard and have been lucky enough to have more sympathetic clients.) Also, many lawyers convince themselves that the ends justify the means, at least for their clients and friends.

To the extent that club thinks that prosecutors are worse than other lawyers, I would guess that it has more to do with the sorts of incentives you get when most people assume that most accused are guilty and just want them put away, and when you work in an institution devoting to putting people away, rather than because they have uniquely small and limp dicks, and thus were somehow drawn to prosecuting criminals.
