Really? Like, right to life versus pro-choice is irrelevant.

And on healthcare reform, only if you believe as Romney did, not as he says.

It is true that Romney will almost certainly get rid of the lower capital gains rate, which Obama has kept.

Taxes are lower under Obama than they were under George W. Bush. Socialism!

I am quite certain they would go up under Romney. He has to defuse the issue, and increasing his own rate is the best way to do it.

1. Flip flop

2. Yup

3. Prolly right ETA: wait, what? I don't know what you mean.

They aren't exactly the same, but they aren't as different as the Rs who claim Obama is a disaster want to believe.

Obama as governed in about as centrist way as possible.

In a word, yes. And if meant "pregnancy help" as a euphemism for abortion, even more so as.

Nothing that can't be achieved elsewhere. It's just a conduit for money, I think. Give directly instead.

PP is either the largest or one of the largest providers of contraceptives, breast exams, pap smears, and treatments for sexually transmitted diseases in the country. I think the stat I've seen says that abortion procedures account for only about 2 to 3% of their services.

do you have an assistant who can proof read what you write? you really need help, because too often you don't make sense, and you are so earnest that that is a shame.

I was asking if poor ladies walk in just to get breast exams, or whether it is part of gets contraceptives or anything else PP might help with.

I'm completely talking out of my ass here and probably should wait until RT comes along and sets things straight.

But I always assumed Planned Parenthood offered a range of women's health care services. You've got to see the Dr. to get your BC prescriptions and refills so it makes sense that they also do the whole checkup, pap tests, breast exams and, for women in the right age range, mammograms as part of those visits. [ETA: I see they don't do mammograms.]

OK, so now you made me actually look it up:

Breakdown of PP services

According to our affiliate (which never got money from Koman, but still supported them by providing teams of people to run every year), they provided more than 41,000 breast exams, identified 839 abnormalities and referred women to local providers for follow up care in the last two years. From what I can tell from the pricing, it's rolled in to the general exam.

I pulled the 2009-2010 annual report (the most recent one is in paper form at my house but not on line yet), and they said that they saw 52,027 women (for all the services they provide*) in that year, which suggests that not all women that walk through the door get a breast exam.

Oh, and as an FYI, these are the services they provided in that year:

110,471 health care visits (family planning, HIV and dysplasia visits) for women, men and teens
• 59,374 unduplicated clients served.
-52,027 women
-7,347 men
-3,386 teens (female and male clients under age 18)
• 17,489 Pap tests
• 104,179 tests for sexually transmitted infections
• 23,929 HIV prevention counseling and testing visits (In health centers and various community sites)
• 1,270 women received care for precancerous cervical conditions
• 18,515 estimated unintended pregnancies averted through birth control

Depending on resources and need, different affiliates offer different services. For example, some affiliates will provide prenatal care, while others do not.

*Despite what the Texas legislature may hope, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast does not provide abortion services. Planned Parenthood Center for Choice Ambulatory Surgical Center provides abortion services. They are two completely separate entities.

If they're worried about affiliates who might be getting investigated, Catholic Health Services is going to have some problems with Komen financing.

I tend to agree with all of this. The issue is, which version of Romney we get? Will he abandon some of the crap that he's been spouting, like increasing the military, etc.?
