Re: Stuck on Repeats

I saw Bullet for Adolph a few weeks back. For those who don't know it is a limited run play written by Woody Harrelson and a friend he worked with on construction, like 30 years ago. The friend is a play writer, but not a successful one. Anyhoo, the two wrote this play.

spoiler

It sucks.

But Shamika Cotton is in it. Now Ms. Cotton seems to be late 20s and is quite beautiful. Beautiful woman on the NY stage, nothing worth mentioning, correct? Well, she also played Michael Lee's mom in The Wire. Mike's mom had to be at least 30, and was a haggard addict. So, the Wire cast a younger beautiful woman, and made her look older and ugly, or at least beaten.

Can you imagine being a less than beautiful actress or one well into her 30s? A role that called for a haggard woman in her 30s isn't filled by a woman in her 30s who is plain: no, they'll take someone who had to be early 20s at the time and ugly her up. Crazy.

Perhaps it's because she's a good actress and nailed the part in auditions? Tom Cruise played a sleazy agent brilliantly in Tropic Thunder. Makeup's cheap.

No. I've always felt almost everything I think fits squarely with consensus. It's this connection to everyone that keeps me going.

The harmonica? I'll borrow from Clinton on abortion: "Acceptable, serving a purpose in some tunes, but eschewed as much as possible."

If you're confused about how to ignore elephants in the corner and 800 lb gorillas, I have to wonder how you've managed to exist in this country as long as you have.

It's what we do. What. We. Do.

This peeping tom stuff is going to get you in deep shit one day. Four words: Not a mere misdemeanor.

The guy was beating her, too? (I didn't read the whole article... That's too much work.)

I'm posting about that which is so fresh it cannot be expected to be posted about by anyone else in a near enough time frame to render my post relevant in the current thread?

Maybe that's what men do but, in my experience, women have more conversations about this kind of thing. I know way more about my close friends' sex lives than their husbands/BFs would believe possible.

And even if you don't dish to your friends, it seems like a natural thing to discuss with your doctor. I do know a woman who talked about it with her doctor. No woman who doesn't live under a rock could possibly think pain every time during sex was a normal thing.
