 | You may have just supplanted Hank as Most Helpful.

My brother has been dealing with nasopharangeal cancer for over a year now. He also picked this time to go through a divorce and have his house foreclosed upon, the latter due at the time mostly to suport his shit-ass daughter who chose not to abort a severely deformed baby (now dead) and then stupidly got pregnant again with another severely deformed baby, which was not aborted and is now also dead.

He kept working through his chemo, amazingly. He was given a clean PET scan early this year and we all thought we were good to go. Then he got worse, and has been pronounced terminal at least twice (I'm losing track), fought his way back (at least twice, I suppose), and now is still kickin'.

Thankfully he sprang for a premium insurance package that included long term disability. He draws 2/3 of his previous hourly wage based on a 40 hour week, and that allows him to pay his regular health insurance premiums (if he didn't have his health insurance, he'd be dead) and other more mundane things like his phone bill and the formula for his feeding tube, and to treat his brother to a beer from time to time just to feel like a normal human being instead of a patient.

He had to be out of work for 6 months for the LTDI to kick in, and after that the insurer put him "under review" for 45 days (I suspect they were hoping he'd kick, I mean, what more do you need to be considered disabled?), so times were thin for a bit for him. But he's sure glad to have it now.

 | And if you can, get an "own occupation" policy. If you're injured with an "any occupation" policy, insurers can far more easily deny coverage.

Early hockey games (college of course) screw with my clothing choices. I wore fleece today thinking of the cool ice arena temps -- but it's in the mid-70s outside so I'm a little warm.
At least I left the down vest in the car this morning. |

Sebby hates being a lawyer supposedly but actually paid more so that is all he can do. Get it?

I'm Calabrese. I'm a fucking horse physically. I can't imagine what disabled would mean to do my job, other than a real mental problem. The insurance company could insist I go dig ditches if I didn't have that rider. I know.

Just not nice enough. |
