I would like to register my absolute bewilderment at this urban legend, and to point out that right now, in 2012 (5 minutes ago, in fact), is the first time I've ever heard it. WTF?!? That is possibly even stupider than "Jews have horns and pointy tails".

Same here. I didn't even get the allusion to it until Thurgreed spelled it out.

Of course, given the really limited ethnic variety in my area while growing up, I was more likely to hear "racial" slurs about other white than white Scandinavians.

I bet none of you ever grew up hearing about "stump jumping Finns."

Well, it was so widespread that middle school kids growing up in both NYC and northern Indiana heard it. Pre-internet.

Then again, apparently the entire country knew to say "Hey motherfucker get laid get fucked" (or some variation) during Billy Idol's "Mony Mony" without the internet in the '80s.

There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm in here, or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then: a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try and talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone and this old man is all that's left. I got to live with that.
