QFT. Every Kaiser doc I've spoken to can't stand Epic. I have clients who are neck-deep in Allscripts and seem wearily resigned to it. The only client I've run into that seems moderately satisfied has athenahealth, but I suspect that's only because the relationship is still young.

Actually, these Rs are finally being honest and presenting an intellectually defensible position - provided you accept the premise that protected life begins at conception and take "God" out of it. If one does, then it follows that the life should be protected against lesser interests, such as society's squeamishness that the life was created by a close relative or through force, or the mother's discomfort.

Are you saying that that isn't an insane position?

The position flows from the basis for Roe and when life begins. It would not be absurd if the Court had found life begins at conception, would it? It would have made it much harder to justify the holding of Roe, but it is certainly not absurd.
I've always thought of the holding of Roe being the correct one based upon the thought that we cannot have the power to tell a woman what to do with her body for 9 months. I guess there was no way to use that alone to support the holding though.

Roe doesn't have to do with when life begins. Roe is a weighing of the interests of the mother and the interests of the potential human life which grows more "compelling" as the pregnancy progresses.
Quote:
|
Texas urges that, apart from the Fourteenth Amendment, life begins at conception and is present throughout pregnancy, and that, therefore, the State has a compelling interest in protecting that life from and after conception. We need not resolve the difficult question of when life begins. When those trained in the respective disciplines of medicine, philosophy, and theology are unable to arrive at any consensus, the judiciary, at this point in the development of man's knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer.

I think the concept of viability has sor tof morphed into when life "begins" at least at the level Supreme Court ignorant people (like me) understand it.

No. You're stupid for your own reasons. The reason why most idiots connect the beginning of life to whether or not abortion should be legal is the Right's insane push to make people think what their church teaches. If these lunatics were just patient, Roe would eventually work in their favor as the timeline for viability would surely improve as technology improves. Hell, they could invest all their hate money into speeding up viability.
But their "life begins at conception" argument is stupid on its face and can be taken to even more ridiculous extremes. Technically, sperm is alive. Is protecting sperm the next step? That's almost as stupid as saying some fucking zygote should have all sorts of rights to the detriment of the mother (even if it's to her comfort, as Less so brilliantly puts it).

There was a #votewhite hashtag on twitter election day. Clicking that hashtag was truly frightening. And the list of them never ending.
The Mississippi State thing was pretty disgusting, too.
