As a few examples, is a Lexus really "higher quality" than a Toyota? Nope. It has some fancier features, and may be more care (i.e., more powerful) but both are going to perform admirably. I'm all for buying the Lexus because you like it and it's fun, but don't pretend it's a "better" car.

What are you talking about? The Bruno Magli shoes I have most certainly are that much nicer than the crap ass shoes I own. The leather is 5 times as soft, they are made to not fall apart and they will last a long, long time. The same goes for automobiles. Not in every case and surely not to the extent of the markup, but quality items are better made, have better materials, are more comfortable and last longer than cheaper stuff.
