Re: Lady GaGa

My long-time favorite was the old Janet Jackson "When I Think of You", which was the highly choreographed video that was supposedly only one take, but actually there were two or three obvious cuts. Still, it was an amazing accomplishment for a music video.

I also loved a lot of the rock and R&B videos from the 80s, as they were my first chances to see a family member's work on a regular basis.

And Michael's "I Want Your Sex." The awkward title bugs me and the song's awful, but there's a lot of pouring of interesting fluids on some Asian model.

The schoolchildren are certainly alright, but one has to wonder about those who think "a program designed to teach them about rearing and breeding animals" should include to lying to children about what happens to animals that are reared and bred.

[Tangent]

Could be worse. Week or two ago, Fresh Air interviewed this guy - a famous animal trainer who trains all kinds of animals for film and stage roles. Among other stuff, he talked about lambs.

Quote:
BIANCULLI: In "Gypsy," not the current Broadway revival, but the previous one with Bernadette Peters, you used a lamb. How do you train a lamb, and how often do you have to replace lambs?

Mr. BERLONI: In "Gypsy," the family, the Hovick family, of which June Hovick and Gypsy were part of - and Mama Rose - loved animals. They were vaudevillians who had all sorts of animals, and so that was written into the script, their love of animals. And how and why a baby lamb was chosen, I'll never know.

***

BIANCULLI: Are lambs always available?

Mr. BERLONI: No. That was the other thing. I talked to one of the original stagehands who worked on the Ethel Merman production, and they used to go to the meat market - this was in the 1950s - get baby lambs, use them and then barbecue them after the show was over, when they got too large, which in the '50s was an accepted practice for meat animals.
[/tangent]

In retrospect, the presence of the asian model in that video rather baffles me.

You must be living under a rock if you have never seen Lady Gaga. Even I know of her hair-bow and fake dick.

I also do not get the hype, although, as I have mentioned here before, her song gets stuck in my head. It's catchy. Like "cos-tan-za!"

Maybe the CEC's in Detroit serve booze and need to officially prohibit knives, chains, and glass cutters, but not in Edina. Come to think of it, the lurking threat of drunken gang violence might have added a welcome edginess to the environment.

Where would I see her if I don't watch videos, don't subscribe to Rolling Stone, and don't watch Entertainment TV. Although your description has certainly intrigued me. Hair-bow?!?!?

I know her from wwtdd.com. That's it.

I didn't know about the fake dick.

ETA: What I didn't know until I read her Wikipedia entry is that she has real musical talent.** She got into Julliard at 11 (but went to Catholic school instead) and also got early admission to NYU's Tisch School. A friend's son goes there and the audition process is pretty competitive.

**I have no opinion on whether it is exhibited in her music.

Edina at least used to be a dry city. Or so I recall.

I don't think I have ever seen her. I'm not sure which songs are hers either, though I'm sure I have heard some of them (in untraditional pilates class, no doubt).

I do, however, know A-Ha. In fact I belted out The Sun Always Shines on TV along with First Wave on my way home from class the other night. A great singing-in-the-car song.

These two facts are tenuously related at best.

Jezebel likes to post pictures of her pretty regularly. I wouldn't be able to pick out a song of hers out of a lineup. But I like her for the way she simply baffles people with her attire.

my images appear to be posted as red x's, so you should google images "lady gaga hair bow" or "lady gaga hermaphrodite" and your curiosity should be satisfied.

Didn't Marilyn Manson do this shtick ten years ago?
