And none of this addresses the "How" of the thing. Do you go with a paring knife or serrated edge? Scissors? Cleaver? How much Wild Turkey should one ingest in advance? Or should it be Oxycontin?

Should you have someone else cut it off for you? Maybe. But who? You can't just ask a friend at work. That could lead to some really uncomfortable situations.

So I don't think you can just go around willy-nilly suggesting Adder cut his dick off. There's a lot more to it than that. These things have to be vetted first.
One of the protagonists in the book I just finished, The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary (guess which one), used a string to tie off the member so as to cut off blood flow and then used a pen knife to slice through. He threw the discarded body part in the fire. There was, apparently, very little blood, though he did require some time in the infirmary afterwrds.

Jesus Christ. I'd heard that was a great book, but... But...

Well, you just don't expect that in the dictionary business.

That isn't more humane, it simply prolongs the agony.

I like your last suggestion. I bet he could find a vet who would be happy to do it.

This post for some reason reminded me of a particularly offensive Yes On 8 ad that is running right now where a family in Massachusetts complains that because gay marriage is legal now their daughter is being taught in school that a prince can marry another prince and "she's in the second grade!"* -- like it is brainwashing kids to tell them that homosexuality exists at all if they are that young or something. Sometimes I wish that every homophobic bigot was forced to live with a gay family member who is in a committed relationship for some period of time so that they could finally get it that it isn't that big of a thing to tell to 8 year olds.

Anyway, your father-in-law and his partner must have some great stories to tell from their globe trotting (ha!).

*Oh, the odious way that the mother says that phrase. Egad.

The protagonist wrote a book about his circumcision?

I started reading that book and couldn't get into it. I don't think I'll be revisiting it any time soon now.

Gelding is the term, no?

It's a harsh alternative considering all he probably needs is a lobotomy (I overthink a lot myself, and am now learning at this late age the sad truth of the axiom, "The stupid shall inherit the wealth") to make himself simple enough to soldier through this issue.

In a development that will surprise no one who is familiar with America, the Chronicle is reporting that Nike will give Arien O'Connell a trophy and "recognize her as a winner."

I shit you not. "A winner."

ETA: Oh, and they're doing away with elite starts.

And they'll hire the woman from Seinfeld to yell "You're all winners!"

It's slow, but the chapter where the guy starves his penis of blood and then slices it from his pelvis is riveting.

I just picked up the ebook on RT's suggestion and it's already given me so many ideas on how to cut Chorizo for this new paella recipe I have...

But if you use chip time for all runners, then it becomes a time trial and no one knows who's really in the lead.

All of this is true. No argument here.

Hilarity (naturally) ensued.

Good times, good times.

I am really glad not to be living in CA this year, for just this reason. As it is, I hear plenty from all my CA friends. At least there is cool No on 8 swag to be gotten. And I like the No vs Yes ads.

And yes, they do have fun stories to tell. And we get lots of cool presents from wherever they go. Someday when I have fewer ankle-biters I'll go cool places too.
