What sort of cakes do you think she'd go for?
The friends whose wedding I officiated a few years ago were a mixed marriage. She's half-black, half-white, and he's white. Their cake was a layer cake with different frostings in different hues of chocolate and vanilla. Each layer was a different kind of cake, too.
Someone who knew I was a dog lover sent me a link to this bridal shower cake in New York. I thought it was quite clever.

Have we done cakewrecks here?
I especially like the "corn" theme and the dissociated bride and groom. To say nothing of the "that time of the month" cake on top.

Unfortunately, this one was not built by the Lego "artist" formerly known as Greedonism on these boards:

2. 2. 2. It is great bottle and an even better bargain. $24 at the local package store for what I'd classify as a $50 bottle.
There's also a Chandon Napa for $22 that's really good.

anyone who loves alcohol would not live in a State where you can only buy it before 9 PM. the planning level required to drink there is beyond the pale.
Pennslyvanians rioted over a tea tax, why put up with this tyranny over booze?

I remember when that Chandon used to be $12. (I invented liking that Chandon.)

(I'm sure I will get no end of shit for this idea, but I'm okay with that.) Right now we've discussed maybe, instead of doing centerpieces on the tables, we would have larger (capable of serving 8-10 people--I think the one in the photo only serves 6), more intricate cakes in this style, with a white "pot" and appropriate flower colors:
I think it's kind of a cool idea. The one at our table would be bigger for the cake cutting and when it came time to eat wedding cake, the servers could just bring out cake cutters and people could serve themselves however much they wanted. I think it would work because the venue has different spaces for each of the dinner, dancing and the ceremony, so even though dinner will be outside in most-likely warm weather, the cakes (as centerpieces) only need to be on the tables during dinner.
What do you think? I'll be over here in my princess bed watching Grey's reruns while you think about it.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but...women like to take home real floral centerpieces on the tables as souvenirs. At least that's what happened at my wedding, and most of the weddings I've been to. They also seem to like having a piece of the cake actually cut by the bride and groom. (Men generally couldn't care less. Sheet cake from the kitchen all the way, baby.)
Personally, I like the idea, but family relatives on the distaff side might be disappointed.
Now for the smart-ass comment: not enough flowers.
CDF
Edited to add: Congratulations! (I've DEFINITELY been gone for awhile...)
