Edited to add: Congratulations! (I've DEFINITELY been gone for awhile...)
now i have to give actual advice- the table cakes are a great idea. each table has 4 couples, how does anyone expect a centerpiece.

the cake idea is something I"ve never seen, and something different is pretty rare. I say do it.
