 | I avoid it by using the following format for dates: The Fourteenth Day Of January in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eleven.

The comma after the year suggest a mental pause in the flow of the sentence that I find unnecessary, regardless of what Melt Banana says about it. This is the first and will be the last time I part with Melt Banana on such issues.

 | Look, you've already paused once for the comma after the date, so why not again? It's like 4/4 time--much easier. When you throw in some funky meter like 9/8 it just gets confusing.

Usually I would defer to you on all things relating to the written word (other than the words written). In this, case, however, ncs is right. One space is more elegant; two spaces are unnecessary.

I note that there is a font that bears my last name (the pre-marriage one) as homage to a family member so I have special expertise in this area. |

				Vanity Sizing?

I am a 12.5 in Nikes, an 11.5 in Mizunos and an 11 in dress shoes.
 But I'm a 10 in L.L. Bean Gumshoes?

I wonder if L.L. Bean has stayed true to sizing from 30 years ago, but athletic shoe companies have vanity sized their shoes?

 | I just checked an email from an actual European and it reads, in part, "
Further to your instructions of 7 December 2010,"

a comma after the year anyways
