If your business was in Beaumont, you should have stayed in Lake Charles, LA.

Eta: I think you need an MJ-type scorer who can completely control a game come game time to be successful (notwithstanding Detroit's recent success). Those guys can draw fouls, score at will and control the game. That's why I don't rank guys like Howard higher.
Guess it depends what's the criteria. I usually think about it from a starting/adding to a team perspective, and I'd put Rose, Williams and CP ahead of 'melo. For straight up supa-dupa star power, yeah, your list gets it, tho I'd dispute the "control a game" thing, as your actual rating system as LeBron hasn't really demonstrated he can do it when it really counts and you have Howard hugely overrated by that standard.

You just want to argue. Rank him where you want to rank him. The guy is an elite player and everything I said related to that point stands.

So, your real name is Pot? Nice to meet you.

Yeah, he's an elite player. If the NBA re-formed tomorrow with 12 teams (new contracts for everyone), and the Knicks had the 5th pick, you'd take 'melo? Really?

Hey Coltrane!

What ever happened with your "friend" and offers from Company B & C? Anything you can disclose? Curious minds want to know.

Maybe you missed the part where I was able to meet RT?

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to argue about this, but I'm in at an offsite meeting and can't give more than quick responses. Suffice to say, based on reality (as opposed to your scenario), yeah. I'd take Melo 5th.

And I clearly think you're nuts, but get where you're coming from on it. Especially now that he's your guy.

He is. Being from NYC, I'm not exactly thrilled about our direction in terms of defense, but Melo is a stone cold scorer with ice water in his veins.

By the way, D'Antoni is gone in a year and a half if we lose our next two playoff series in a string of 128-123 type playoff game losses.

So, you think the 'melo trade was mainly to reshape the team for D'Antoni? Rather than a Dolan + Walsh plan, regardless of coach?

And, that team ain't hanging 120+ on the Bulls more than twice in 7, unless guys get hurt.

the knicks should try to get ben wallace and/or Rip, both of which we'd give up easily- Ben would bring a Defense mindset and rip can still help ala old reggie.

more importantly, then i could totally become a knick fan

No. I think we went for the best player we could get (who clearly wanted to play in NY) after losing out on LeBron. Would have went for him if VanGundy was our coach.

True. But the comment was more about our lack of defense under D'Antoni than how awesome we will be at scoring. In my eyes, it was a best case scenario for a D'Antoni-coached team.

That said, I'll take my chances against anyone if we somehow bring in Paul or Williams in 2012. And yes, I know that's a pipe dream. But I believe Paul has already discussed the idea with our big two.

Do you think the NBA cuts off all the players' ability to collude? Or maybe they introduce a concept to keep players from being able to opt out so easily?

as I predicted, chauncey is showing himself an equal to the "big two" if not the best player on the team.

the thing with Carmelo, and AS for that matter, you can't tell much about a player when he is playing on a lesser team- let's see how those two can do on a great team.

Edit because they were on decent teams before
