I like that, and like the author, I'll refrain from checking the veracity of it. Believing the next great American book could just be a pair of jeans away gives me hope.

(I met Wolfe once. After thanking him for providing me with considerable entertainment over the years, he started in on a conversation about cars, a subject on which I'm weak. He then pivoted to my wife, who's much easier on the eyes. I went back to the bar and wound up talking to Geraldo Rivera.
