Other than the part where you disagreed, I agree with you.

I got your point the first time. It's just such a ridiculous conclusion to draw (I had friends who weren't stupid in HS who spout TP bullshit now, so there must be more going on) that it actually amounts to a post with no substance. I wanted to point that out.

TM
well do you think the general public has decreased in IQ, or do you think the TP encourages people who were once smart enough to realize they're stupid and would shut up, to start speaking up?

the John Wayne clip I posted, a woman who I thought was pretty smart posted that as if it was something wise to share. lots of other are doing similar posts on their public facebooks. it shocks me.

most of the people i'm "friends" with from my high school post "I love Jesus" shit.

now I"m from a backward lower class town, so maybe I just know a higher percentage of the truly nuts, but i always thought I had filtered that out.

anyhoo, I"m shocked and confused about some of the people who buy into whatever the TP message is. i thought that had some value in the discussion of "whose party has ore stupid voters", because the fact that perhaps some of the people aren't stupid, might impact the question.

in sum, I do feel that it added at least the value of the average PB post.

Apropos of nothing, I took a couple of Constitutional law classes in Claremont. I even got A's on them. Leo Flynn, I thought, was an excellent con law professor.

That's nice, but that's not where she was.

Quote:
The Claremont Institute, which shares no official affiliation with the consortium of seven interconnected schools that make up Claremont Colleges but which lists a number of Claremont McKenna College faculty as fellows or scholars, works on a number of projects, including hawkish advocacy for ballistic missile defense programs. But its most feverish passion seems to be opposition to gay rights, evident in the Institute's advocacy against gay teachers or Boy Scout leaders and in support of "reparative" gay conversion therapy. The Institute, which publishes the right-wing Claremont Review of Books, was founded in 1979 by students of Harry Jaffa, a philosophy professor who studied under neocon patriarch Leo Strauss and the author of Barry Goldwater's famous call for "extremism in defense of liberty." The institute praises extremism in its own right, this year bestowing its Statesmanship Award on Dick Cheney. O'Donnell's fellow Tea Partier, Sharron Angle, claims that in 2004 she was awarded its Ronald Reagan Freedom Medallion.

But like many right-wing institutions investing in conservatism's future, the institute focuses on new faces in the movement, offering two fellowships for young conservative leaders, including the Lincoln Fellowship O'Donnell was awarded in 2002. Participant lists for the fellowship are a catalogue of Congressional staffers, state Republican party operatives and conservative pundits in the making, including Andrew Breitbart, who went on from his fellowship to accuse former USDA appointee Shirley Sherrod of racism against whites this summer, and National Review's Kathryn Jean Lopez. One past participant, Brian Lee, a former staffer for the staunchly anti-choice Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, called the institute a premier "training ground for a lifetime campaign in the trenches of political warfare." Another, 2009 fellow Jon Fleischman of FlashReport.com, compared the fellowship to "taking the ‘red pill' " of The Matrix. The Institute itself says it is targeting "rising stars of the conservative movement … to teach them how to be ‘able and orthodox teachers.'"

Why are they pointless?* I think an EEOC claim is still viable for quite some time. I don't know necessarily if it'd prevail, but certainly he could make a race or age discrimination claim. (Bob Edwards, in my opinion, had a better case for the latter, but that's another story.) My organization certainly would have waited a day or two to review the issue before making any quick decisions to terminate the contract.

I know that NPR listeners have been annoyed with Williams for years now, and the corporation was probably very eager to get him the hell out of there. But it did seem very quick. OTOH, this is the same organization that first forbade its news staff from attending Jon Stewart's rally as attendees on the basis that it may be perceived as political and therefore the news staff would be showing bias. And after his statements on Fox, I don't think I'd ever want to hear his analysis on anything about Muslims again. Given the world we live in and the role he had at NPR as a news analyst, there is a high likelihood that his job would require him to analyze issues revolving around Muslims. His analysis would be suspect going forward. I think his termination was probably appropriate, but it probably was a little faster than I would have advised had anyone bothered to ask me.

*Disclosure, according to my bank statement, my last contribution to an NPR affiliate was six days ago, and after Planned Parenthood, it is the non-profit that gets the most frequent charitable contributions from me. I rely on NPR for most of my news.

for the people who win, buying a lottery ticket was subjectively smart, but it isn't objectively smart.

I did spend some time in the town. I did know what other campuses were around.

ETA: This is the second institution where I have a connection that she claims affiliation. My Linkedin profile, however, is accurate.

First, let's see Ty's graph plotting rising sea levels against sinking tax rates. We need to know how high to build the dikes.

If you are not able to distinguish between that scenario and O'Donnell then you might be stupid. No offence.
