Do you not realize the extent of (a) Congressional health benefits and (b) pharma's lobbying efforts? Harry probably gets 500mg Viagra.

I'm very glad that Sharon Angle is not a U.S. Senator, (and that Miller and O'Donnell also seem to have lost -- gives me a touch more faith in the average voter) but I don't think Reid is a very good Majority Leader, and I'm not sure how much it helps the Dems to still have him around.

P.S. All that said, 2009 is not 1959, and LBJ himself would have had one helluva time getting enough GOP votes to get much more done in this Congress.

Between the images he draws of Hillary and (more recently) Nancy, I think we get some insight into Penske's psycho-sexual development.

That kind of insight I can do without, like how characters in an H.P. Lovecraft story really shouldn't go snooping around down by the docks at night.

Ezra Weeden was present at the finding; and remembering the baying of the night before, set out along Weybosset Street and across Muddy Dock Bridge whence the sound had come. He had a curious expectancy, and was not surprised when, reaching the edge of the settled district when the street merged into Pawtuxet Road, he came across some curious tracks in the snow. The naked giant had been pursued by dogs and many booted men, and the returning tracks of the hounds and their masters could be easily traced, together with scraps of paper depicting Pelosi in stages of undress.

I don't usually reply to the same Lovecraft parody post twice, but this was so good I have to make an exception.
The reason this piece gets four gibbous moons rather than five is the lack of use of mandatory HPL terms including "hideous," "tentacled," "engorged," "pulsating" and other vaguely anachronistic adjectives that would have served double duty in a discussion of Penske's atavistic sexuality. I say this because I can see your potential.

and by the way, ths is a perfect example of wha the tea partiers mean when they speak of "educated arrogance." they don't mean a brain surgeon tackling a synapse gap (hi Adder!) they mean someone who wasted their dad's tuition dollars studying bad literature and who would later try to use that "knowledge" to attack someone with the knowledge of basic experiences, like say, ohhh ......Penske?

I don't normally reply to the same post twice, but you must understand that while I don't condemn this public masturbation of your wit out of hand, I do suggest you save such displays for what could be effectively called a BDD, AIW NPI.

Dude. Have I ever expressed pride over anything? Or voiced any support for any religion?

Context is key. Bachman = loony whacko self-identified Christian of the ilk that likely worries about creepying Sharia (I don't specifically recall her saying anything about it, but it seems like the kind of thing she says).

If you're making a statement about being proud to hail from a district with open minded voters, please, don't break your hand patting yourself on the back. That's what they all ought to be, and your misplaced "pride" = soft-headedness. A person persuaded by identity politics (and being proud to elect a person of any particular creed, sex, race indicates a gullibility in that direction) is a person whose views deserve no reply by laughter. In short, if your post is earnest for the reasons I think it is, you're a bigger goddamned simp than I'd previously thought.
|
Dude, you do not live in a vacuum. What's the big deal? Why shouldn't he be proud enough to live in a district with minds open enough and clear enough to vote for the candidate they thought represented them best, no matter what color or religion that person is? I think that's kind of cool, especially when the flames of hate are constantly being fanned by the ignorant masses out there.
And your statement about what voters from districts should be misses the point entirely. There are too many out there right now that aren't open minded enough to look past religion, so being proud of one that is makes perfect sense.
I don't think his statement had anything to do with identity politics or gullability or whatever you want to assign to it.

It's laughable horseshit, an insecurity, a way of saying "I'm more enlightened than others... I like having a transgendered mayor. I have learned so much about the transgendered lifestyle and I am open and tolerant, which indicates I am more evolved than so many in this country."
|
Jesus Christ. This is such bullshit. I can't speak for your friends, but I ABSOLUTELY enjoy living in a diverse neighborhood. I used to visit Scottsdale all the time, but holy shit I would never want to live there. I love hanging out in certain heavily black sections of Brooklyn, but again, I wouldn't want to live in those places. I like having a good mix and that extends to ethnic restaurants, gay people feeling safe to walk the streets openly, women owning businesses, whatever. Maybe that makes me more enlightened (at least by being exposed to other cultures), maybe it doesn't. But what you said above is absolute garbage.

You have it the wrong way around, brother. As soon as people stop despising people because they're different is the day when people won't have to speak up about being tolerant and open to diversity. I think you're focused on the annoying guy who wears it like a badge instead of the people who are actively trying to make others comfortable or trying to draw like-minded reasonable people in to join them.

The only fucking answer to "You're going to hell and ruining this country is "I am (or you should be) tolerant." The goal of those who are tolerant is not to be a part of some fucking tribe. It is to be tolerant and to create an atmosphere where all types of people are comfortable.
Holy fucking crap.

and a muslim congressman today says something about the district. it shouldn't but it does.
and obama getting elected says something about this country. put tea partiers aside, this country elected a mixed race guy. it surely doesn't mean we are "post racism" but it was a damn proud moment for me as to the overall make up of this country.
I was in Austria the summer of '09. the people we were with wanting to talk about the election- and the moment that had stuck in their minds was that news clip where someone is talking to a lady through the screen door, and asks who the family is voting for- she yells into the house "Jim, he wants to know who we're voting for."
Jim yells back "we're voting for the n-----."
so to these European people it showed how backward the mass of this country is- but the guy (and it might have been contrived video but let's assume he was real) got past his biases enough to give obama the keys to the country. it says something.
and I wanted to ask the austrian guy how many non-white people have ran Austria or germany or France or the UK. you know? it shouldn't matter at this point but anyone who says it doesn't is lying, because 75% or reaction to obama has to do with his race.
