Got it.
No, there were real policy differences then, too.

I'd rather not play this stupid game you're setting up. The disagreements in Seoul you were referring to result from the countries' different economic interests, not just poor communication style. If you want understand find a copy of the Financial Times and read it.

Ty, you're the expert. was there anything like that?
Yes, the availability of that option is why health-care costs haven't been going up lately like they used to.

C'mon now. Failed states print money to pay consumption they can't afford. The Fed is creating money to buy and holds bonds.

Spare me. The Fed is not printing money because there is a lack of bond buyers. Just fucking admit it. The Fed is printing, as the cartoon nails, to inflate. The alternative is addressing reality as explained by Obama's debt (two man) commission.

Yes, they are trying to inflate. Since inflation is below the Fed's goal of 2% and millions of people are looking for jobs that don't exist, this is exactly what they should be doing. This obsession of fretting about inflation when rates are at historic lows is absurd.

Agreed. up or down. Why isn't down better? (except for needing to devalue the dollar and debt)

There's a trade-off between inflation and unemployment. Higher inflation, more people working. The Fed is supposed to balance these goals. Except that it doesn't -- it's under the influence of bankers who think, simply, inflation is always bad and less is good. Hyperinflation is, of course, bad. That is not our problem right now. QE is aimed at getting the economy going.

Are you really asking why deflation isn't better than inflation?

eta: if so, ask Japan.

Or if one prefers there is a trade off between inflation and growth (doing that stating differently thing again).

One way of looking at thing is that there is greater incentive to buy things today if they are going to coat more in the future; and greater incentive to put off buying things if they are going to coat less in the future.

We had a similar eruption of idiocy nearby (not one of my clients) over t-shirts with the American flag. The problem, to the extent there even is one, is that flags are used as counterprotests to things like Día de la Raza and Cinco de Mayo. Because the Left allowed the Right to co-opt the flag in the 1970s, it works -- the American flag has successfully been turned into a symbol of nativist Know-Nothingism. Which is sad, but not a reason for a school administrator to try to spare people's feelings in the name of an inclusive learning environment.

Sounds like George W. Bush's memoir could have been written by Stephen Ambrose or Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Weren't you the one on here predicting hyper-inflation in 2010?

Almost Hoover-like, in fact.
