I think the "crosshairs" thing gets rather overblown. This, however, is despicable.

I saw that too. At this point, from what i am reading, which is general MSM, it seems to me that he was probably very mentally ill. What role ideology played from there I am not sure is a decided question, but even without ideology it sounds like this guy was headed for a profoundly anti-social moment at some point in his life, more likely sooner than later.

I don't disagree - and he may have had a lunatic fringe group of the day program for all we know, and so be everyone's lunatic.

I meant to just say that it looks like the direction of the investigation is going to lead to finger pointing. I didn't mean to point a finger while saying that. My fingers are otherwise engaged.

Horseshit. Remember Sarah Palin's reaction to the use of the word "retard"?

You won't find as many ardently serious lefties in the "really bad room" at the bachelor party as you will righties. Why? A lot of righties are closet libertines who really don't believe in any ideology any more than it suits their interests. The fun ones, at least.
More horseshit. Or do you think it was Republicans that made San Francisco the sex-obsessed city that it is? If we avoid the "really bad room", it's because we don't like being surrounded by drooling amateurs.

And her critics likewise have the right to flag this degenerate piece of arctic trash for what she is - a rabble rouser who created an environment in which nuts felt emboldened to do things like this person did.

Fuck her. I hope this thing gets politicized as much as possible, and it finally removes her from the national scene.
I think I agree with everything in this post.

I wouldn't hold out much hope for this making Palin go away. It may, however, mark the start of her "serious" period, which could be even worse.

She's already had a serious period. She's too dumb and uninformed to pull it off -- once she had to talk without a complete script, she bombed. That's why she went down the rabble-rousing route.

To close the loop: Ezra Klein responds to the David Brooks thing Sebby posted.

I did not post a story from David Brooks. Somebody else guessed I did because I screwed up the original link. Go back and look at the link that I posted in reply to fix that.

No accusation here; just correction.

Yes, it's a blog from Europe that likes Obama. Deal with it.

Also, "ordinance survey map symbols?" Really?

I posted the Brooks article because at first reading I thought it was what you posted, but also because it was eerily similar to what you posted. In other words, it was straight off Grover Norquist's (or whoever's) talking points.

1. Did Palin's people really issue a release reading "ordinance map"?

2. Even if they used "ordnance map", why are they citing an agency of the UK government? Why aren't *American* map symbols good enough for them?

Apparently this was from a Palin staffer in a Politico interview. Stupid spin indeed.
