FYI, I don't count the Ubers, lyfts and similar things as tech companies. They're not.

Uber and Lyft absolutely are tech companies. Also, there is a wide range of business practices across tech companies, including in the HR realm, and tech companies are at least as adept as other companies at treating their employees poorly. They are, however, better at average at deceiving themselves with a self-image about how well they treat everybody.
It's very hard in the Bay Area to hire people, because the market is so tight. You would think would constrain tech bosses more, but when you are busy disrupting the world, all that stuff about the value of management is the sort of old-school corporate groupthink that just gets in the way of the innovation.
