I need a place that is far enough away from home so that no guests need be invited, but close enough that it can be driven to for a weekend (or a few days -- whatever).

What's my next move, man?
Congratulations! I would think that there has got to be a bunch of bed and breakfasts in Vermont that do weddings for out of towners.

Or Provincetown.

and, per Joel Stein, surely there are deals to be found in Vegas (baby). Maybe the Chapel of Love has a 2 for 1 you can split with someone.

Vermont was considered and rejected, because we'd have to show up there personally to get a license, and then wait 3 days. I need something in NY, CT or MA.

But that's the right idea. I'm thinking of a resort-y type place (because there will be a staff wedding planner who can help), but just dialing it down for this (lower-case "e") event.

But even for a small ceremony, you need SOMETHING, right? Flowers? A guy playing the violin or something? God, I'm hopeless.

OH, snap. That's a good idea. There have to be more wedding planners per-capita there than in any other location in the northeast.

Not to steal gwinky's corner, but Canada is drivable and Montreal would be lovely. Requirements are at the bottom of the page.

Do any of those states have residency requirements for getting the license? Maybe you looked into that when you considered and rejected Vermont.

How many people are coming to this quickie wedding? Immediate family?

If you don't go to a resort-y type place, you can still find people to do a simple but lovely wedding -- hello yellow pages and internet. See what they have in The Knot.com
http://www.theknot.com/

Is the congrats for you? I thought you already got married or was it just that you had the honeymoon?

Only three guests. The only reason we're not doing "town hall" is because of the kids (the three guests). Minimal planning is the goal.

Couldn't you simply do "town hall" and then have a rabbi come to the house? Kids could attend at the house.

I got married at a restaurant with a garden here in NYC. I spent hardly anything on flowers and the restaurant just had their usual florist put together centerpieces with the colors we liked without telling them it was for a wedding. If you choose a similar plan, there isn't much you need to plan (although it's always more than you think). But you can get it done quickly if you keep numbers down.

MA site: http://marriage.about.com/gi/dynamic...gl-207-toc.htm

Looks like MA requires a three day waiting period, too, but no more blood test, at least.
