True. Still, objectively, he is not an exotic person. Anecdotally, I've a relative in the news business who's met him casually and said he's pretty much exactly what you see on TV - direct, a bit full of himself like any politician, but generally just a typical guy. This, of course, is expected. Obama the candidate grabbed a whole lot of voters for the same reason Bush did - seemingly like a person with whom you could have a beer and shoot the shit. Any diversity he brings is not significant.

Oh, and he's lived in the Continental US since college. I think that washes out any Hawaiian uniqueness.

You are talking about governance, I am talking about politics. I don't expect good governance from any of these people, regardless of ideology or party, but for their own sake and the sake of the money that they waste, they could at least accomplish good politics, and if they can't, it makes more convinced that anarchy should be the wave of the future.

Hmmmmm. Don't you think the first 18 years of your life and the family system, socio-economics and local culture you were raised in brings some perspective or context to how you interact with the world around you and people in it today; or are you saying that all of the booze and drugs of college washes clean of that psychological baggage and we start fresh with our sheepskins in hand?

I would say I'm far more the person I was in college than before it.

But we needn't have that argument because it misses my point. My point was Obama has been living in the US for the last 30 years, and yes, they undo a lot, if not all, of the 18 that came before them.

You should talk this through with your therapist.

I had a lot of fun in high school. But a whole lot more in college.*

And it stuck.

*May include three additional years of college some call "law school."

When did I say that all campaign promises were (or will be) fully met? Just how stupid do you think I am?

you equate "fun" with inebriation far too often. i think you would be healthier, both mentally and physcically, if you made an effort to begin to distinguish the two.

And yet you have called me fat on more than one occasion. Does your mamma know?

Maybe I'm overly optimistic but I were president I would shoot for a higher ideal rather than marginalizing my expectations to the mediocrity of my predecessors. You goal setting may be done differently.
No. Sebby got my point on this and has my proxy. Tactical considerations like messaging can make a difference at the margins but if the economy sucks, your approval ratings will eventually suck too.
