Of course the Dems misstepped. They always misstep. It would be impossible to imagine them in the act of stepping without picturing the miss. They can barely toddle.
But what will cost Obama a second term, if he fails to win re-election, won't be Democratic "arrogance" or a health care "debacle." It will be the continuing shiteness of the economy, a fundamental, structural and enduring shiteness that was not of his manufacture, no matter what your objections are to his methods for dealing with it (from left or right, I have mine, I'm sure you have yours).
What the Republicans have learned from this election is that preventing Democrats from taking even those baby steps they might actually be able to take without tripping over their own chubby feet to mitigate the overall shiteness wins votes. GOP priorities are not to make things better between now and 2012, but to ensure continued shiteness and make it stick to Obama. They now have everything they need to make sure it happens. Lucky us!

Ann Arbor seemed nice. I went to an Italian restaurant run by a Greek family. Diversity abounded!

funny. when it comes to an election everyone can say reid was a fuck up, but when looking at an inability to get even 1 R vote "he just couldn't do anything." bollocks.

Not sure I know WTF you're talking about (as usual), but the Rs were all about compromise in the last congress, weren't they? Just waiting for an extended hand from Harry Reid, who so ineptly failed to convince them that saying "no" to everything wasn't in their best political interests. Since 2008 the strategy has been scorched earth. Now that they've been so handsomely rewarded, we're getting more of the same.

Too busy trying to find the craziest R in Nevada to be his opponent so he could keep his job which he isn't very good at. And I don't think anyone here disagrees that Harry was bad at the parts of his job (as opposed to keeping it) that involved leadership, action or management.
eta: Oops. Maybe 'weed thinks that Harry was actually doing a good job.

He wasn't doing a good job. Instead of letting the right whine about how this and that was "shoved down their throats," when what they actually got was a spoon-feeding of sugared oatmeal, Harry and the rest of the shitebag Dem majority should have done some actual ramming.

Haha. Making jokes about all the closeted Republicans. Yeah, Harry should have given them what they *really* wanted!

I suppose that would have depended on the wideness of the Republican stance.

Although he looks like a candidate for impotence....maybe he could've enlisted Nancy as his proxy.
