I agree -- though this may be their immediate reality check, confronting the Tea Party with the impossibility of balancing the budget, cutting taxes, and preserving all the spending that their full-of-shit supporters love. (Their supporters only want to cut gov't spending on other people....)

I just checked Rand Paul's website, since I view him and Kentucky as the Ur-ground of the Tea-Party-As-Full-of-Shit, and saw that his position is that he would likely oppose this compromise. I'd bet that most Tea Party electees say the same -- but I'm not going to check, as having to visit Rand Paul's site was punishment enough for any sins I may have committed.

Is Lieberman *actually* sticking his neck out, as some reports indicate?

Let's play a game:

The US 2010 base defence budget is $530 billion. I'm willing to cut 10% of this and save us $53 billion.

Your turn.

I bet you get kicked off of DU when you drop a "not" as one of your typos and the mods think you're an R.

I'm willing to whack Medicare Part D, entirely. 2010 budget savings = $68B.

I'm willing to *not* fix the doctor patch, and see what happens. Savings ~$12B.

I'm willing to *not* have the AMT patch--why not move toward a flat tax?. Added revenue ~$70B.

There's over 10% of the 2011 deficit right there.

Your turn.

No fair, you took mine.

But, okay. Farm subsidies are about $20 billion. I'll cut 100% of that. (Think you can find one Tea-Partier who will go there with me?)

This might be something I would "worry" about if had ever been to DU.

Oh, come on, cut the military another 10% - as long as we don't have to figure out which 20%.

I haven't been following the protests in England but this is an interesting account on a few different levels.

Okay, so, WF&A, non-local pork and disguised foreign aid.

Also, Rand qualifies as a TP'r and is in favor of bigger military cuts than any other senator, so tread lightly.

I'll stay away from comp and benefits. One less plane, ship, etc. off each order of each project should do it.
