a case is heading to trial, but there are settlement discussions- at some jam-up in the talks, he'll say to the business guy, "let's go for a walk." we walk around the city, and at some point he says, "we'll you and the other guy can reach some business agreement, and you have certainty- OR- we can hand your companies fortunes to the next 8 people we walk by. It is a sobering way to convey the risk.

I figured there would be some sort of ceremony, but assumed it would be some weird melange of a five-figure deposit, burning some lace curtains, forced internment for an evening with a bunch of humanities professors drinking brandy, and a set of mock negotiations with a Blue Shield claims adjuster. |
